Working with a transdisciplinary approach and with students from engineering programs, the bioengineering group operates in the application of knowledge from this area in the health context, with an emphasis on biomechanical analysis, implants, and 3D analysis.

Among the activities developed by the group, there are initiatives for the rehabilitation of cancer patients through prototyping and 3D printing, in addition to services already on the market, such as the Plasma Pen, a tool used as an alternative to the high-speed pen, present currently in dental offices.

By focusing on developing Information and Communications Technology in the most diverse fields of health, this group works designs systems for educational purposes, management support, and monitoring of endemic diseases.

In this group, projects like the SUS Observatory, Regula RN, RN + Vaccine, and Aedes Aegypti Observatory are developed and supervised by researchers and undergraduate students from health and engineering programs. Competencies are designed to improve training, enabling the researcher to work both in the labor market and academic settings.

Hearing is one of the essential sensory systems for the development of language and cognition, and its disorders can generate psychosocial, economic and environmental impacts to the child, his family and society.

In this context, the Hearing and Language area aims to study technologies related to the identification and characterization of typical and atypical development of hearing, language and cognition in infants and children, as well as to study the use of technological innovations in the proposition and validation of methods and techniques for the identification, diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing disorders in different life cycles.

Considering the importance of biomedical devices in helping health professionals in the diagnosis, monitoring and investigation of pathologies, this group works in the development of equipment based on the relationship between technology and health.

Collaboratively, undergraduate and graduate researchers work in an integrated and transdisciplinary way to design, create, develop, and validate devices for primary health care use, improving their delivery and expanding diagnostic potential. This group resorts to the theoretical conceptualization and practical development of such technological solutions, with an emphasis on systems based on biosensors for disease diagnosis and prevention.

Educommunication includes a group of researchers from the fields of journalism, advertising, design, and audiovisual studies, who work in developing academic-scientific productions in a cooperative way along with several projects and sectors from the LAIS/UFRN. This group’s work consists of producing journalistic, advertising, and educational content for dissemination in institutional media, and social networks, as well as in media outlets and the academic community.

This group also relies on postgraduate researchers participating in international cooperation projects developed by the lab.
