About International and Interinstitutional Cooperation Center of LAIS/UFRN

In 2018 was the beginning of the Laboratory's international agenda systematization, as part of a process of developing joint and collaborative actions between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and the National Health Department (MS). All this strategy has actively contributed to foster actions of technical cooperation with international institutions of education and research (universities, institutes, laboratories, research groups, international networks).

Estados Unidos da América

ConquerX

Since 2018, LAIS has strengthened its ties with the University of Massachusetts through the ConquerX start-up. The actions developed between the institutions have focused on the development of a project focused on diagnostic research based on rapid tests for congenital syphilis. In addition to the interchange of researchers from both institutions, masters' dissertations, patents, and software registration are some of the products of this cooperation.

With Harvard University the partnership has been operationalized by the T.H Chan School of Public Health and the UFRN Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS). The actions are focused on the study of Health Systems Resilience.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

With Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) the cooperative actions involved the validation of prototipe to a PHD thesis, alignment and follow-up meetings for research activities carried out in technical cooperation with MIT. Check out the videos below and stay on top of these actions.

Portugal Open University

The work plan executed in the scope of a cooperation agreement signed with Portugal Open University (UAb) has the goal to develop advanced research in education and communication. Today, 17 LAIS' researchers developed researches in the portugues univertity's post-graduation programs (11 in masters and 6 in doctorates).

The work plan executed in the scope of a cooperation agreement signed with University of Coimbra has the goal to reinforce research applied in education, communication, management and governance to response to syphilis. Today, 6 researchers from LAIS are bound to this University's doctorate.

The work plan executed in the scope of a cooperation agreement signed with Barcelona’s Autonomous University has the goal to develop research and open educational resources to the qualification of communication processes, production and analysis of the actions of health distance education in Brazil.

Portugal

Universitat Complutense de Madrid

The work plan executed in the scope of a cooperation agreement signed with the Complutense University of Madrid has as goal the production of new formats and innovative audiovisual narratives to be applied in communication in health, distance education and diffusion of results reached by the "Sífilis Não" Project. A doctorate's thesis is being made in this partnership.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra

Among with Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), a delegation from LAIS attended a bilateral seminar seeking the approximation and experience exchange of research and intervention between LAIS/UFRN and the group MEDIUM from UPF. MEDIUM performs many researchers in the european scope, in the "Transmedia" field (the complementarity use of media to enhance narratives to different audiences) and "Digital Interfaces". Such investigation field is important to thin and formulate research and products focused on processes of formation and of communication in health applied to young people and other priority populations in the "Sífilis Não" project. The bilateral activity also had the survey on a possible cooperation agreement or the development of a work plan between both universities as a result. The goal was to strengthen open educational resources and use them in health distance education in Brazil.

The work plan that is being carried out under the Cooperation Agreement signed between UFRN and Athabasca University focuses on the development of joint activities aimed at the mining and analysis of syphilis data, relating the areas of Communication, Education and Health. The participation of Athabasca University Director of Academic and Student Affairs and Professor Dr. Constance B. of Athabasca University of Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty at the 2nd International Conference on Health Innovation and the interchange of researchers for research development Phd degrees at the University are some important milestones of this partnership.

Since 2013, the LAIS Cognition and Language Research Base has been conducting research in partnership with Professor Dr. Francesca Simion of the University of Padova. Cognitive and perceptual development in the first 24 months of life of babies with perinatal hyperbilirubinemia was the subject of the first jointly developed project. Currently, Professor Francesca Simion has contributed to the Project ”Sífilis Não”, researching babies exposed to congenital syphilis. Link of the agreement .

The health education has the power to change persons lives. In Morogot, interior city of Tanzania, one peculiar initiative is transforming the reality of hundreds of people with the distance learning courses produced by LAIS. These actions are part of the process of prospection and development of joint humanitarian cooperation acts with reference institutions in other countries addressing public health concerns, in the agenda of Sustainable Development Goals. The technical cooperation of LAIS and YWAM has the objective of strengthening the use of AVASUS in the english africa and in countries that speak the kiswahili language, like Tanzania, Kenia, Ruanda, among others

Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS)

O Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Health(LAIS) is located in Natal, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, northeast region of Brazil. The city's population is estimated in 884.122 inhabitants, accordingly to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, 2019). Among its main natural wonders, they have beautiful beaches, sand dunes and coconut trees. Its geographic location, in the margins of the Atlantic Ocean, is strategic to fulfill International Cooperation actions.
