The Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, visited this Friday (16) the Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. It was the first visit of the current holder of the portfolio to LAIS, and the second of a Minister of State to the laboratory, reference in the development of technologies for the Unified Health Service (SUS).
The meeting was attended by the rector of UFRN, Professor José Daniel Diniz, the governor Fátima Bezerra, the mayor of Natal, Álvaro Dias, and federal deputies João Maia and Benes Leocádio, as well as representatives of secretariats of the state governments and the municipality of Natal, as well as technical advisors to the Ministry of Health.

He then participated in a guided visit to the LAIS research bases. Minister Mandetta praised the work of excellence developed at LAIS, highlighting the importance of the research center for the development of solutions that can be applied in public health services in Brazil.
“LAIS is one of the references for SUS. More than a laboratory that proposes projects, LAIS is characterized by developing actions that are part of the needs of the Ministry of Health. The research of neuromuscular lesions is very important, on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, every issue related to syphilis. It is very interesting here the presence of young people, from high school, from the beginning of college, who learn to research breathing a research policy, which is extremely important. The entire LAIS team is to be congratulated,” he said.
Governor Fátima Bezerra also talked about the work developed by the laboratory team and the importance of the coming of the minister, which helps to reinforce the credibility of the research that is developed by researchers. “First I want to point out that LAIS has achieved credibility not only here in Rio Grande do Norte but in the country as a whole. The coming of the Minister of Health, here, in loco, symbolizes for us a commitment with the State policies, to continue supporting the actions of LAIS, for what it means, a true revolution, facing the immense challenge that the contemporary world places each time for us in the context of health.”
