The OpenPacs platform was developed by researchers at the Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS) and is the first action within the partnership with the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL).
The platform proposes to add RIS (Radiology Information System) and HIS (Hospital Information System) solutions to the hospital’s technological structure, to solve the problem of storing and managing medical images, which is recurrent in Brazilian hospitals. Thus, they have developed a suite of tools that, in practice, allows the archiving of exams such as X-rays, MRI, and CT scans in a single place.
The system operates from capturing the images in the radiology exam equipment to delivering and visualizing the content in the health professionals’ computers. OpenTelediagnosis, OpenForms, OpenRH, OpenMedVideo, and OpenBIMED are some of the tools for telehealth and RIS practices developed by the project.
The telediagnosis tool for viewing and downloading medical imaging exams, OpenTelediagnostics, makes it possible to increase telehealth practices.
OpenRH is the tool of the OpenPACS project responsible for regulating access to exam data stored in the PACS database.
OpenPACS also includes OpenBIMED, OpenForms, and OpenMedVideo. This package supports search, generates adaptive forms for medical procedures, and makes video exams suitable for storage in PACS.
